Heal For Life is a UK charity that runs residential healing weeks for adults who experienced trauma or abuse in childhood. The programme ran for years near Bradwell-on-Sea in Essex; in July 2027 the charity brings it to this house. This is their programme from start to finish — we provide the building, the rooms and the meals table, and they provide everything that matters.
What the week is
Five days, arriving Sunday evening and leaving Friday morning. The days have a settled shape: reflections in the morning, shared work around the house, workshop sessions on the early days of the week, time in the group, and one-to-one reviews with the team. Meals are prepared and eaten together.
The charity’s approach pairs current research on how trauma affects the brain with the knowledge of people who have lived through it. Nobody hands out advice. The team’s role, in Heal For Life’s own words, is to support each guest to heal themselves — they hold that everyone has the capacity to do so, and the week is built around trusting each person’s own sense of what they need.
Every member of the team has completed the charity’s training and has been through a healing week as a guest first. That is what “run by survivors, for survivors” means in practice.
Who it is for
Adults recovering from childhood trauma or abuse. A week takes no more than eight guests, supported by a trained facilitator and a team of three.
Heal For Life asks some people to wait for a later week rather than come to this one: anyone in the middle of an acute crisis, currently dependent on alcohol or drugs, or whose mental health right now would make group work or looking after themselves unmanageable. If any of that might describe you, say so when you register — they would rather talk it through with you first.
Booking
Places, cost and registration are all handled by Heal For Life, not by us. The booking link on this page goes to their registration page, and questions about the programme itself belong with them. Questions about the house (travel, rooms, accessibility) come to us.
